Is it possible for soap to be so conditioning, it becomes drying to the skin?

I made a soap that SoapCalc claims to be 70% conditioning. After I get out of the shower, my skin feels smooth but it also has white flakes on it. Whether I wash using a facecloth or not. Whether I scrub with a towel to dry or not. Maybe I'm just mistaking the flakes for residue (there is 25% coconut oil in this recipe)? But it seems I experience this with many soaps...

Do I just have really sensitive skin?

I have made some soaps that were way tooooo conditioning............I too have had some residue left on my skin that looked like flakes. It was with soap I made with high co????? But, I can use a 100% co salt bar with no problem.
I know I am not answering your question, but will wait here and see what others say.

It could be the CO, my skin gets flaky and kind of stingy itchy from it. I have never had an adverse reaction from a high conditioning #, just lovely soft skin.
I use PKO instead of CO..

Thanks!

I used PKO in my last batch but haven't washed with it yet.

Maybe it's just going to take a lot of experimenting with lots of recipes to make myself good soap.

It really does take some experimenting Jessica. I am looking forward to seeing what you think about your PKO soap. I didn't know at first that CO could bother skin so bad, I thought I was making bad soap. The avocado oil soap recipe I posted seems to feel very good to everyone who has tried it. I have been making soap for almost 2 years and am still improving my recipe . What I have learned is adding 2 tsps ppo of icing sugar to the lye water ups the bubbles, adding 1 tsp ppo of clay helps the bubbles meld into fabulous lather, and adding a tsp or two ppo of creamilk really makes the lather feel so moisturizing and softening.

It really does take a lot of experimenting to find what works best for your skin - but it's sooo worth it!

I started out by making small batches with little changes to get a feel for how the oil synergy changed the results, then added some goodies like Kellie says .. Now I'm Goats Milk & Clay all the way Wink

Bnk

Smoothy

I've noticed that a recipe I made with a high percentage of palm oil left a white film. It isn't drying, but it did leave a white film. Could it be that the white flakes were just a film?

I would guess the white film may be stearic from the palm.

Hmm, that could be it bnk. Another soap has been leaving it too so I'll have to check over my formula to see if both call for palm. Thanks!
